2017 USACK Marathon National Championship
April 29 @ 9:00 am - April 30 @ 11:00 am
The start time for the ICF National race has been moved to 9am due to winds.
USA Canoe & Kayak’s Marathon Racing Committee and the Houston Canoe & Kayak Club are pleased to announce that Sugar Land, Texas will host the 2017 USACK Marathon National Championship. This event doubles as the annual Marathon Team Trials, the assessment race that determines who will make the U.S. National Team. The athletes selected at this race will represent the USA in the Marathon World Championships, to be held in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, in September 2017.
The National Championships/ Marathon Trials will be held on Brooks Lake on the weekend of April 29-30, 2017. The course will consist of 5-8 laps (depending on classification) of approximately 3.5-kilometers each, with a mandatory portage on all but the first lap.
Brooks Lake offers unprecedented convenience for out-of-state competitors. Hyatt Place, our host hotel, is located on the lake, directly adjacent to the finish line. Lake Pointe Town Center, with dozens of shops and restaurants, including Whole Foods Market, is on the opposite shore, connected to Hyatt Place via a pedestrian bridge.
Brooks Lake is approximately one mile in length, 60-meters wide at the front & back buoy turns, 120-meters across in the center, and is 10-feet deep end to end. This smaller setting offers spectators a chance to witness a majority of the race from one location.
Please check the USA Canoe/Kayak website or the Marathon Team Trials Facebook page (www.facebook.com/kayakmarathontrials) for updates.
